How It Works

How It Works: Step-By-Step Guide

Are you looking to book an appointment with a nutritionist or dietitian? Here’s how it works:

1. Which package?

After looking at our services page, please visit the packages and pricing page. Take a look and decide which package appeals to you the most.

a) First, select 1 of 2 options: Single Session without a meal plan or 2 Sessions with a meal plan.

b) Then, decide if you’d like to purchase follow-up sessions. Most of our clients do. You can purchase 1, 3, 5 or 10 follow-up sessions. This largely depends on your needs and goals.

2. How would you like to receive nutrition counselling: in-person or virtually?

Next decide if you’d like to receive nutrition counselling in person at one of our locations or virtually.

You can now join many of our clients who resort to virtual counselling. Rest assured, it’s just as effective.

3. Office locations

If you prefer to have your sessions conducted in person, please take a look at all the JM Nutrition Ontario office locations (and Nova Scotia location) and decide which is the most convenient.

Our office locations for on-site, in-person visits:

TorontoMississaugaScarboroughWoodbridgeHamiltonOttawaHalifax and Vancouver

Please note: We do conduct virtual nutritional counselling for the residents of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, British Columbia, AlbertaSaskatchewan, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

4. Select Practitioner

Decide which practitioner’s areas of expertise suit your needs and goals best. If you need advice making the selection, email us, and we will help.

We also encourage you to check your insurance coverage as you may have annual coverage for a nutritionist, dietitian, or both.

5. Contact us to book an appointment (initial session)

Simply get in touch with us, and we’ll let you know what appointment time slots are available. Don’t forget to specify:

  • which package is of interest to you
  • whether you’d like to receive counselling in-person or virtually
  • which practitioner you’d like to work with
  • if you select in-person, let us know at which location

We then book an appointment.

6. Intake form

After booking an appointment for the initial session, we will send you an intake form. The form is designed to give our nutritionists and dietitians a clearer, more in-depth picture of your health concerns and goals. This allows us to serve you better.

We ask you to fill out the form and return it digitally prior to the initial session.

7. First appointment—initial session

During the first appointment (i.e. initial session) we will review the contents of the intake form, provide a thorough educational component, discuss your concerns, address your goals, make suggestions, answer questions, and so on.

8. Meal planning session (not applicable to a single session)

This 30-minute session is dedicated exclusively to meal planning. With your input, we will go over how the meal plan will look like and how to navigate it.

We will then spend time collecting information from you, so we can do our best to personalize your meal plan based on the foods you enjoy eating, your lifestyle, dietary conditions, cultural and religious restrictions, budget, and so on.

We work with foods from around the world!

8. Meal plan arrives

A few days after the meal planning session, you will receive the personalized meal plan. The meal plan is designed to help you navigate your way through meals, so you can get started on your way to reaching your goal.

You will also receive a variety of helpful tips and important guidelines to help you navigate tricky situations. You will receive recipes, too.

9. Schedule follow-up sessions (if applicable)

After the initial session, we schedule weekly or biweekly follow-up nutritional counselling sessions, as our schedules permit (if applicable). The sessions are used to check in, monitor progress, make adjustments, answer questions, etc.

10. Cancellations and rescheduling

If for whatever reason you’re unable to make it to your appointment, we ask that you notify us at least 24 hours in advance. That said, however, the more time you can give us, the better we can serve all clients—including you.

11. Payment

Please keep in mind that payment is due upon the completion of each session. This applies to the single session and the 2 session package.

The fees for the follow-up session packages are paid up front.

We accept the following methods of payment: credit card, electronic money transfer or cash.
